Why is Human Trafficking so hard to prosecute?
1. Human trafficking victims rarely come forward to report human trafficking.
3. Human trafficking effects local areas but at the same time it is a international issue. This leads to confusion on who exactly is to investigate and prosecute certain cases.

Human trafficking is such a hard crime to prosecute because of these 4 reason: human trafficking is rarely reported, if reported a lot of the time victims do not show up for trial, it is a international crime, and sometimes police are partaking in this crime.
If a victim does not come forward there is no case for law enforcement to investigate. The same thing happens to Prosecutors when it comes to victims not showing up for trial. In the eyes of the law, no victim no crime. There are many reasons why victims do not come forward or show up to trial, but what seems to happen in most cases is that they are simply scared of the criminals. They are scared that they will hurt them or go after their families if they try to stand up to them. This is why it is so important to stand up to human trafficking and have these victims back so they do not feel alone in the fight against human trafficking. Since human trafficking is such a global issue, it makes it hard for law officials to go after human traffickers. For instance, if a man was to traffic a girl into the United States but resides in China who would investigate this? China does not have an extradition treaty with the United States so they would not send him here to be prosecuted. HumanTrafficking.org argues, "In order to combat the globalization of this criminal behavior, international policies and practices that encourage civil participation and cooperation with trafficking victims in the prosecution of traffickers have to be developed." This would make it easier because they would be able to go to places like China and enforce the law. Lastly, there are times when law enforcement officers takes place in these horrible acts of human trafficking. Reuter reports that more than 50 police officers were caught being involved in human trafficking networks in Thailand. Do not get me wrong, there are many non-dirty police officers out there in the world but there is some dirty cops that the world should not be blind to. Our world is not perfect and neither are its people but further precautions can be made to make things better. These are obstacles that we the people need to over come to help give justice to those who have suffered. |
