I believe that Shane Koyczan’s speech was more powerful in delivering the message then Clint Smith’s. I could see and feel the emotion in is tone of voice and face that really kept me on my toes. This doesn’t take away from Clint Smith’s speech because it was very well done as well. Shane’s speech also had the music and the video that made it very visually appealing. Shane’s speech really brought back memories of when I was a child because I was bullied as well. Starting the fifth grade, my so-called friends out of nowhere started to call me gay and a bunch of other names. They would push me around and they made me feel like an outcast, someone that couldn’t belong. This would go on to sixth grade but it went from name calling to threats because I was white and kids waiting at my locker to punch me in my private area so they could laugh as I went to the ground. This memory relates to Clint’s video as well because I never told anyone until my mom figured it out because it would take me an hour after school to actually leave the campus. It took an hour because I would hide and wait for the kids to go away from my locker. I took the hits and the names and hid them under silence. I didn’t know how else to respond. After seeing these videos, I would have responded very differently indeed. Keeping the lock on my voice and keeping the name calling inside was the wrong thing to do. I should have told someone and maybe the bullying would have ended sooner. Now and especially after these videos, I would stand up for those who are bullied and cannot help but keep silence. Everyone needs a voice, if they do not have one some should be there to give them one .
